Embark on the best 3-day desert tour from Fes to Merzouga and back. Explore the Middle Atlas, ride camels across Erg Chebbi dunes, and sleep under Sahara stars in a luxury desert camp. Ideal for families, couples, and small groups seeking a short yet immersive Moroccan adventure.
We start our 3-day desert journey from Fes, heading south through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is the alpine town of Ifrane, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco.” We then continue to Azrou, where we visit the cedar forest and meet the native Barbary monkeys. After lunch near Midelt, we drive through the spectacular Ziz Valley and reach Merzouga by sunset. In the evening, you’ll ride camels into the Erg Chebbi dunes and enjoy a magical night in a luxury desert camp with dinner and traditional Berber music.
After breakfast in the camp, we begin a 4×4 adventure across the dunes. We visit nomadic families, Khamlia village to hear Gnawa music, and fossil sites in the black volcanic desert. You’ll also explore the seasonal lake of Merzouga if water levels permit. Return to your hotel by late afternoon to relax or take an optional sunset camel ride.
We begin the return journey after sunrise. On the way, we’ll stop in Rissani to visit the traditional souk, then continue through Erfoud and the Ziz Valley. We enjoy panoramic views, coffee breaks, and photo stops as we return to Fes by evening.
Bring comfortable clothes, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and a warm pullover or a jacket for the desert nights.
Merzouga is approximately 470 km from Fes. The scenic drive takes about 7–8 hours with several cultural and panoramic stops along the way.
